Parents pushed into debt in school holidays
ONE in five parents will end up in debt this summer trying to keep their kids entertained during the school holidays.
Three-quarters will use a credit card or overdraft to pay for school holiday activities and almost a quarter (22%) will even turn to taking out a personal loan, according to recent research from moneysupermarket.com.
Its no surprise when a day out to Alton Towers for a family of four can cost £300 when you add up entrance, travel, food and drink etc.
Kevin Mountford from moneysupermarket.com says: “Families need to examine all the options before planning their summer fun or they could be left feeling the pinch for many months to come.”
To help reduce the cost of school holidays you should take advantage of vouchers and discounts online and in newspapers.
You can even take packed lunches and drinks in a coolbox. Often booking in advance online for days out can also help you make savings so place well in advance and research carefully.
